Hi, I'm new to the game and to the forum. I have a lot of questions and will be slowly posting them over the next couple weeks. Anyhow, my question is:A 3.4" gun on a german ship can penetrate CL and CS ship armor at 3000 yards. However, the equivalent damage for this size weapon only affects DD's at 1/2 and does not do equivalent damage for CL's and CS's. Can a 3.4" gun damage a CL or CS?Your input is valued. The short answer is no, a 3.4" (and 3" in general) cannot damage a CL or CS class SHIP. Now that being said, what a 3"-3.4" can do is penetrate CL class ARMOR (as defined by the table on page 7-13) at 3000yds or less. So if you were firing your 3.4" at a DD (or less) class ship with guns protected by CL armor, then you would only be able to cause damage to those guns at a range of 3000yds or less; above that range, the guns would be immune to your fire. If the ship is CS or larger, then the fire would be ineffective. What the Equivalent Damage Table does is establish the threshold where a given calber of gun inflicts significant damage. While a 3.4" will cause some damage to a CS and above target (more like scratching the paint), that damage is not considered (under the terms of the damage model used by FAI and GQ3) significant enough to warrant modeling. This prevents having gamers (and we've all done it) firing off every weapon in a vain attempt to get that magical (and highly improbable if not outright impossible) 'Golden Hit'.Hope this helps and keep those questions coming!
