Hello All,
I have recently started a collection of 1/2400 WWII warships, and acquired a copy of GQ3. I remember playing GQ1 many years ago and thinking very highly of the rules.
As I have been building my navies, I have created a library of ships logs of each models as I go, using name changes as necessary to reflect ship in the same class.
However I have hit up against some classes that are not represented in the sheets provided in the rule set.
These comprise (so far) HMS Furious, HMS Manxman class cruiser/minelayers, British Captain class DE's, British Algerine minesweepers, and the KM Emden (1925).
Is it possible to access additional logs that are not in the lists in the rules? I've had a look around this site and not found anything that fits the bill. But maybe I'm not looking right?
I don't feel comfortable enough with the game to try doing my own charts at the moment.
Can someone help?
Thanks John

Well, I can point you to two of the ships in question. Furious is on the 'RN 1943 + Pacific Fleet' sheet and the Captain class DEs are identical to the US DEs (USS England on the the 'USN Amphibious' sheet). (In fact, the Captains were US DEs supplied to the RN). As for the Manxman and Algerine class, those were not included due to press of space. Attached are the logs for Manxman (and her sisters), the Algerine class, the Bangor class, and the Halcyon class.

Sorry, I missed Furious in the Pacific fleet listings. I think I took a quick look at that sheet but was mainly assuming she would have been retired to secondary duties by then.
Thanks very much for Manxman, Algerine, Bangor and Halcyons, they will help a lot.
I'm quite aware that the Captain class were ex US destroyers escorts. USS England is actually a member of the second "Buckley" - "TE" type. There's also the first group "Evarts" or "GMT". The British received some of both types. The US log shows torpedo tubes, which were not shipped in British service. As I said I'm not really up to speed on the finer details, but it seems I can use the England log for British TE ships, as long as I erase the TT's. It happens that I'm using CinC Buckley's with the tubes carved off, so that all fits.
Your help is very much appreciated.
Thanks very much.
John

Evarts class (aka "short hull") DEs never had tubes - no room for them. Interestingly, as I understand it most of the triple tube mounts on DEs were WWI era mounts from "four flusher" DDs being modernized or converted.

Hello, can anyone tell me what are the statistics of British light cruisers class D and E? I will appreciate. Cheers Rafal.

Hi!

I'd like to upp the above comment. I wonder why these two classes were omitted as both were used throughout the war in many theaters, Emerald and Enterprise "both had active employment until the last few months of the war, in almost every theatre. Enterprise served in Force H in 1940 when that naval task force attacked the French naval squadron at Mers-el-Kebir in July 1940. Enterprise after her 1942-43 refit served with the Home Fleet where, in company with the cruiser Glasgow, she participated in the successful battle against a well-armed German destroyer and torpedo boat force in December 1943 in the Bay of Biscay." They took part in Normandy landinigs and then moved to Far East to support some last actions seen there aggainst japanese.

The Danae class vessels was also active till the normandy landings.

I have several miniatures of these ships and I was thinking about putting the stats together myself, but I'd greatly appreciate seeing how the ODGW authors see them with best regard to balancing all the ships in roosters.

Thank you in advance.

"I wonder why these two classes were omitted..."

While it would be desirable to include all classes (major and minor) of the major powers, the pressure of space precludes that.  Even with 576 logs in the base rules (and more yet in the supplements) there will always be some left on the cutting room floor.  The simple fact is that more logs means a higher price (for what is already a pretty hefty price tag).  The decision as to which made the cut and which didn't was based on whether the class in question served in noteworthy (ie, gameable) actions (such as the many Solomon ships) and, in some degree, popularity (such as Yamato and the Iowas which were never involved in any real surface actions of note, but to leave them out would be a major gaffe).  Unfortunately, many ships fell short of these cuts (such as the Alaskas, the Omahas and the D & Es) and were left out.

I edited the ship logs for the models I have to the best of my knowledge. As I played the game only couple of times I do not fully understand how to rate AA capability or victory points, so I just left it from similar British CL's. Also, the number of hull boxes is just my educated guess from comparison with C and Arethusa class existing logs. Perhaps only I should change the Emeralds VP's to 4. If anyone would be so kind to point any mistakes I made that would be great, also I am uploading it here because somebody else might be looking for these.

The Emerald class cruisers; Emerald and Enterprise were originally completed with four triple 21" torpedo mounts. But in 1929 (according to Conway's All the World's Fighting Ships 1922-1946) they were refitted with four quad 21" torpedo mounts each. According tp the same source the four quad mounts were retained into 1944.
