Per the GQ 3.3 rules, when a ship takes multiple Engineering hits, the number of hits will determine if the Engineering hits can be repaired with Damage Control. So for example, a ship takes its first two Engineering hits during a turn, forcing the ship to coast to a DIW state. If the ship subsequently repairs those two hits, restoring power, but then takes a third and/or fourth Engineering hit, does the third Engineering hit permanently reduce the ship to the yellowed hull box and the fourth would permanently destroy the engine room even though the Engineering spaces have been previously repaired? In other words, does repairing Engineering hits allow the ship to start over with tracking the Engineering hits:(the "third" hit reduces speed to the yellowed hull box and the "fourth" hit renders the ship to a DIW state) and those ships can repair the "third" and "fourth" hits and restore power again? No. Once an Engineering hit is repaired, that essential resets the clock (for hits).

Pretty close. For a third hit to take effect, you must have two unrepaired Engineering hits in place. Once that third hit is registered, you are permanently reduced to half speed, your repairs will only restore half power. If you receive a fourth Engineering hit and you already have three unrepaired hits in place, then you're reduced to DIW permanently and cannot be repaired (your engineering plant has been basically reduced to rubble and your only hope is a tow to a repair yard.
