I was examining the Japanese OOB and noticed that the Yamamato and Taiyo are lumped together under the Combined Fleet. I also noticed an astrix after each of their names and a note saying that they could be aqdded to a carrier group or deployed with the 7th Destroyer Division and/or other ships.

Question, must the Yamamato and Taiyo be deployed together or can they be assigned to different CDs?

Question, if assigned to a carrier group; is Taiyo allowed to exceed the 2 carrier limit?

Question, can the 7th Destroyer Division be assigned to a CD that the Yamamato and Taiyo are not assigned to?

Pending an authoritative answer, note that the BB is Yamato (named after a province), and the admiral is Yamamoto Isoroku.  :-)

It appears the Taiyo, and the 7th Division were frequently diverted during the campaign. Taiyo as aircraft transport, the DD's for escort and Tokyo express runs. Taiyo would drag down everyone else's speed anyway. I wouldn't worry too much. I'd worry more that the Yamato displaces three other capital ships. Consider that before throwing that fuel hog into the fray.

It's hard to give up the 18" guns and BA+ armor. I rather take on the US BBs with the Yamato than the Nagatos.
