Sydney versus the Kormoran
Having a bit of time to kill I thought I'd give this little action a go.
It starts with the two ships on parallel courses 1,600 yards apart. I gave the Kormoran two turns of unanswered fire before Sydney could fire back. The Kormoran could also fire torpedoes. Sydney's secondary armament couldn't fire, as in the action it doesn't appear that they were able to be manned.
I played out the action half a dozen times (it doesn't take long). The key is the Kormoran's torpedoes. If they hit and did big damage, then Sydney was doomed. If Sydney had some turrets survive then the rapid fire and lightly built merchant hull ripped the Kormoran apart. It ended up 3-3, with no mutual sinkings.
I used the merchant damage column, but it does make Kormoran pretty fragile.
Interesting little game.
