On Saturday, August 13th, I got together with several friends and played Mein Panzer at Imperial Outpost Games in Glendale, Az.

The scenario was set in North Africa during the summer of 1942 and while not strictly historical it was something that could have occurred. The scale of the game is 1/285th scale micro armor by GHQ and the terrain is GHQ Terrain Maker.  I provided all the equipment for the game.

We had 6 players total with me acting as the game host and referee.  Two of the players, Brent and Rick were new to the game and Connor was back after some time away.  Since I had two brand new players, I decided to just use the advanced rules with some elements of the command module included but no infantry or artillery to keep the game fast and smooth.

The objectives for both sides were the 2 hilltops plus the vital village crossroads in the center of the board.  Points were also scored for destroyed vehicles as well and a brewed-up vehicle counted double.

The British forces consisted of 3 squadrons.  One squadron had 11 Grants while the other two had 11 Crusader IIs each.  No squadron started at full strength.

The German forces consisted of 3 companies, all under strength.  One company had Panzer IVs with some Panzer IIs while the other two had Panzer IIIs plus Panzer IIs.

The British had the initiative on the first turn and the second but the Germans had the initiative for the remaining 3 of the 5 turns we played.  The game was very bloody in that the British lost most of 1 Crusader squadron and a good part of the Grant squadron by the end of the game.  The Germans had lost 2 complete Panzer III platoons in 1 company and suffered losses in the others.  Overall, the British got it a bit worse on the exchange.  The crossroads was contested at game's end with the Germans controlling on hill and the other contested.  The final result was a German tactical victory but everyone had fun including the new players who want to play again.

Mission accomplished!

Nice scenario, great looking figures and especially nice job on the GHQ Terrain MakerĀ®.

Hoping to get MP on the table this winter.

Thanks very much Healey!

I like Mein Panzer quite a bit and most of my new players end up liking it as well.  Right now we are in the middle of a Kharkov '42 scenario with Russians vs Germans in 1942.  The Russians have the better equipment overall but the Germans are veterans and have better troop quality and the extra veteran shot.  I will see if I can get some photos of that one as well.

Pete
