I know the Mark VI imploder caused real problems for the the Mark 15 torpedo mounted on the newer destroyers. But what about the Mark 8 carried by the old flush deckers? In other words, do we apply the dud rule to the older torpedoes also?

Sorry about the late response (real life, once again, intervenes...).

The Mark 6 exploder was only released for general use after the start of the war (and only to the modern frontline units) and had been designed for the Mark 13, 14 and 15 torpedoes.  The older "flush deckers" were still equipped with the older Mark 8 torpedo (and its older Mark 3 exploder) and, in fact, could not carry the longer, heavier Mark 15 torpedo.

In GQ3.3, the older Marks 8 torpedoes are indicated by a black dot with white numbers.  And given the success of these older torpedoes in the very early battles against the Japanese, it would be appropriate to waive the dud rule.

I figured that, but thanks for making it clear. That's bad news for the Japanese at Banjermasin. Just think of it; the US Navy having torpedo superiority in late Feb 42 with a max visibility of 2,000 yards.

Well, I'd still put my money on the Japanese with the Type 93 torpedo and their superior equipment and ships.  The "flush deck" can only launch a 6 torpedo spread at a time (the average IJN DD can do 8 in a spread).  Plus the Type 93 is faster and heavier hitting.

I never bet on the Japanese; either for or against; they always disappoint me.
