Russian artillary and mortars do they all cost 50% less than other countries do? Now when firing a mortar in direct support of infantry do they have to wait 3 turns or can they fire that turn if they are set up and ready to rock and roll, not as a battery, but where you place the marker and roll the deviation dice and place the template and see if you hit something. To get the 50% less cost to you have to pre-plot all of your artillary and mortars? One last thing can you attach a mortar section to a regular infantry platoon, because all the soviets infantry or machinegun section have CO's seems they did not trust anyone with out a commmander.Thank you,Andrew Burton

Hey Andrew,Here are the answers/questions to your questions.

Russian artillary and mortars do they all cost 50% less than other countries do?

I am at a loss here. Where do you get this from, since I don't remember seeing this anywhere in the Core Rules or the WW2 Data Book?

Now when firing a mortar in direct support of infantry do they have to wait 3 turns or can they fire that turn if they are set up and ready to rock and roll, not as a battery, but where you place the marker and roll the deviation dice and place the template and see if you hit something.

Again, I am not sure where you read this in the Core Rules. Mortars that are 80mm or larger require a standard activation to set up. This means that since you cannot fire during the remaining Bonus Move action that you have left for that activation then these mortars can fire the Next Time (Next Turn) they activate. There is no rule that I know of that requires a player to wait 3 turns.

To get the 50% less cost to you have to pre-plot all of your artillary and mortars?

Again, I don't know of any rule that reduces the cost of artillery, let alone 50%. Can you tell me where int he rules you saw this?

One last thing can you attach a mortar section to a regular infantry platoon, because all the soviets infantry or machinegun section have CO's seems they did not trust anyone with out a commmander.

Strictly according to the rules, yes you can. However, if you want to stick by a particular countries true doctrine you can modifiy this to suit your play style.

Hi, Where I found my information was infront of the World War 2 data book, where you have some special rules. They include some of the rules for like the American FO, and then give a specail listing for the British and German artillary. Then finally they list the Russians, like the front part of the data book for the world war 2 listing of the armies and include the listing for doing human wave attacks by the Japanese. that is where I found the information is it optional or what? Thanks,Andrew

Andrew,You are looking at the Artillery optional rules, which many people like and use since it allows a very powerful weapon to have a more nuanced and realistic influence on the game.Regarding Soviet mortars onboard in direct support, if a stand in their unit is spotting for them, they can bring the mortar fire in the same turn. Also, direct laying (the mortar is firing with their own LOS to the target) comes in immediately.Fyi, use two turns delay for Soviet offboard artillery. There are several reasons for the Soviet delay, which I can go into if you are interested.Cheers,Gregory

Ahh! I was looking in the Core Rules. I didn't even think of the WW2 Data Book Special Rules. Though I did write 90% of the book Gregory did do the Artillery Optional Rules. As you can tell I haven't used them personally, but Gregory did get a good answer to your question. Thanks Gregory!Pardon my ignorance to your excellent question. My only defense is that I have WW1 data running around in my head with all of the Core Rules revisions and additions and corrections to the other Data books. I know, I have no excuse!! :P

Hi, Been sometime but was just curious why is the Russian artillary always delayed so much. When you say preploted does that mean on a map I have to plot each strike for the game or just a few turns aheaqd, how does that work exactly?Thank you for your time,Andrew

Hey Andrew,Gregory will have to chime in here with his explainations for the preplot and delay reasoning. Sorry, I cannot remember the answers to your questions. :pinch:
