I'm left with two differing impressions on smoke rounds. The first is, if the tank can shoot HE then it would have smoke rounds. The second impression is that only those tanks having smoke rounds on the smoke column will be able to shoot them.I understand that the British close support tanks (A13CS, Matilda 2 CS, etc.) had these 3.7 howitzers, but that they only shot smoke from them. Is this true? And, if so, then why isn't smoke listed for these vehicles in the WW2 Data book? Thanks, Jerome.

Not all tanks armed with HE had smoke rounds. The Germans, for example, just didn't believe in using smoke for some reason and most of their tanks did not have smoke rounds. In Mein Panzer, you only have smoke rounds if indicated in the SK column. As for the British, I see a couple of close support (CS) tanks that are missing a smoke round. The A13 and A22 Mk II. We'll have to wait for Bob to get back from vacation to verify if these actually had smoke rounds. All the other CS tanks, including the Matilda III, have general smoke rounds. Now, did they also shoot HE or did they only shoot smoke ... I don't have a concrete answer at this moment. I'm out of town for the holiday, so I can't pull out my books and check. BUT ... going on memory ... I'm fairly sure the CS tanks were also armed with HE. They were "close support" tanks for supporting infantry and HE would have been valuable in that task. But either Bob or myself will verify this.We will certainly verify these entries and fix anything that may be incorrect.
