In the Core Rules it states this about Small Arms ROF and engaging other targets:RATE OF FIRESome guns have a greater rate of firethan the big tank guns. These guns, becauseof that rate of fire, could fire several roundsin the same span of time. To recreate thissome guns will have a ROF value greaterthan one listed on the Equipment Table.Players may roll 1d20 for each ROF if theshots are taken at the same target.A weapon with a high ROF may changetargets, but it costs the weapon one ROF tochange to a new target. If this causes theshots remaining to be reduced to zero, it maynot take any more shots this activation.ROF AND SMALL ARMSThe rules mentioned above apply to theFire Power value of small arms, except smallarms may change their first target for free. The way this is written implies that a AAMG Quad Vickers with a total ROF of 5 (barring any bonus shots)would engage the first target with 5 shots, the second without loss of ROF(5 shots), 3rd target with 4 shots(-1 ROF), 4th target with 3 shots(-1 ROF), 5th target with 2 shots(once again -1 ROF) and a 6th target with 1 shot(-1 again to ROF). Now that appears to be excessive to say the least, but that is how it is written. Now in the Infantry drop-in says this about Small Arms ROF:RATE OF FIREIn general, Rate of Fire for infantryworks the same as described in the DirectFire rules. However, the first change oftarget is always free for small arms. Thus, astand with a ROF of 2 may always engagetwo targets with one shot at each. Thisincludes Vehicle Mounted machine guns. The example(ROF 2 may engage 2 targets with one shot each) does not coincide with the way it is written. I know I am misinterpreting this but the wording needs to be cleared up a little. I am sorry for the long post and I know I am reading this literally, but this does not read as clearly as I wouldl like and I would like a clarification. Thank you in advance.John Murray

Howdy John,Here's the poop. The ROF is your TOTAL number of shots, not the total number of shots per target. So if you have a ROF of 5 with a NON small arms weapon (AAMGs would be small arms), you could take 5 shots at one target. Or, you could take two shots at one target, lose a shot to switch to another target, and take two shots at a second target. Or any combination not exceeding 5 shots. For an AAMG, which is a small arms weapon, your first change in target is free. So you could take one shot at target #1, switch to another target (first change, free), take one shot at target #2, loose a shot to switch targets (second change, not free), and have two shots left to take against target #3.There should VERY few weapons with a ROF of 5, with the best typically being 3. But the bottom line is your ROF represents ALL the shots you can take during the turn, not at each target.Hope this helps.
