Good Morning Gentlemen,

For what it's worth I can offer the following 'lessons learned' from when our group played the Solomons Campaign several years ago.

1. We used 1/2400 scale miniatures with the larger 1 cm = 100 yds range.  The game table was 10' x 6'.  Bottom line; the scenarios got 'big' and the table got cramped.

2. If I had it all to do over again, I would go to 1/6000 scale, and use the 1 cm = 200 yds range.  On the larger battles, you'll need room to maneuver.

3. If you don't have the exactly correct miniature for each ship on the table, don't worry about it.  Your 'history experts' will give you some grief at the beginning of the scenario.  Ignore them.  Everyone will have a good time regardless.

4. If you attempt the 1937 Sudden Storm campaign, be aware you will probably have at least one massive scenario with battle fleets on both sides slugging it out.  That means lots of ships, engaging at long range.  That's another argument that favors the 1/6000 scale ships and 1 cm = 200 yds range.

5. Designate a non-playing referee to keep the game organized.  Designate a Commander-in-Chief for each side.  It's better if players keep the same units from scenario to scenario, or at least stay on the same side. After several campaign-turns, players will start to lose interest.  Lean on the commanders to keep their sailors motivated!

6. Lastly, you will find that the tactics on the game table will not decide victory or defeat in the campaign. When the campaign ends and you're all sitting around discussing it and drinking beer, someone will point to a key campaign decision that tipped the balance to one side or the other.

Hope that helps.
