Hi all

I recently purchased the GQ3.3 Rulebook this will be my first naval war game and i was wondering if anybody had some good suggestions for battles to help learn the game or for beginners. I thought that the battle of the Denmark strait would be a good starter one but it would be cool to hear the communities other suggestions. Maybe to like slowly introduce aspects of the game.

I cannot wait to get started this game looks so awesome!

I'll be honest I prefer to stay away from Historical battles as a first learning game.  When I took on GQ3 the first battle I did 1 Battleship, 2 Cruisers, 3 Destroyers on each side.  For victory conditions we did simple ship sunk/damaged points.

I did Denmark Strait as a tutorial as the new players had some familiarity with the ships. Will do River Plate next to introduce lighter forces with possibility of spotter planes & torpedoes.

I might see if I can try both plans then. Light forces almost seem more complicated to me with how fast they can go and the greater proliferation of torpedoes

The Battle of the Icebergs, which us available for GQ purchasers for free from the Download Library, is another good intro scenario.  Daylight, and not too big.

Keeping it to cruisers to start (depending on the cruiser chosen) will keep it simple while still addressing ship handling, gunnery and torpedoes. For that reason I use River Plate as my introductory scenario when teaching the rules.

Good Morning Thanatos,

And welcome to the hobby!  Torpedo combat is a big part of WWII naval actions, and an exciting part of the game.  Look up the cruiser IJN Haguro, and specifically her sinking in 1945.  The Battle of the Malacca Strait is an excellent scenario to learn and practice torpedo tactics.  It's also a good scenario to learn the spotting rules and night combat.

Regards,
