What is the effect on a CV if it takes Hangar damage? I can't find anything about lost planes, extra fires, reduced op tempo, just the Hangar Fire from the Gunfire Damage Table, which is "raging among the stored planes, avgas, and aviation gear."

Mike,There are three things extra that are possible with these fires:[ol][li]the ship takes damage every turn it which it burns[/li][li]the optional rule in The Solomons Campaign provides for extra damage when a ship takes damage to its ready decks when hit[/li] [li]you must make an aviation fuel vapor explosion roll two hours after a hanger hit to see if you explode and take additional damage from the fumes hanging about the ship[/li][/ol]I hope this helps.Cheers,Gregory

Thanks for the reply. So, hangar and flight deck hits never destroy an aircraft. They just cause fires or prevent air ops, plus the possible vapor explosion. Perhaps the rules assume that all the planes are in flight? How about causing a loss to half the 20% of total by type that is left behind when you launch a strike?

We opted for a simpler model that did not require tracking the number of airplanes destroyed, but your point is valid. You are certainly welcome to develop a house rule for number of planes destroyed due to hanger (IJN) and aft deck (USN) damage. I will discuss whether an optional rule could be devised for this.

A rule such as 2 or 3 aircraft models destroyed per hull hit might suffice? Of course, aircraft must be present to be destroyed.

Exactly. And how many are present (and where there are located on the carrier) would need to be tracked. Generally, if a carrier has a hanger deck fire, her days of carrying out air operations are pretty much ended (at least for that game). So tracking aircraft losses due to a hanger fire becomes somewhat moot. (Of course, for a campaign, this would be a different matter).
