Have a couple of questions about optional rule 1.7.7 C.S.T:

1. Is this result in effect for any range where the firing ship can obtain a hit (adding the 3,000YD range to the gunfire CRT solving the San Francisco vs. Hiei issue has nothing to do with this rule?) or is it only for close range?

2. With the 1/2 result and subsequent die roll do you get all 3 hits (Critical, Secondary, and Tertiary hit) with an odd result, or do you have to roll the die 3 times and only get a hit (either Critical, Secondary, or Tertiary) with an odd result on any throw?

I'm sure this is covered somewhere but I can't find it, in advance thanks for the help.

1. I don't recall range having anything to do with it.  Range affects the ability to rapid fire, but not IIRC the C/S/T result - other than the closer you are the more likely you are to get more hits that is.

2. You don't get three hits.  You roll on the Gunfire Damage Table normally, the number of times = the Equivalent Damage Rolls (i.e. the 1/2 part to the number of hits you rolled).  Say you're shooting at a BB.  Any rolls on the Gunfire Damage Table other than a Critical (12), Secondary (3 or 10), or Tertiary (2) would be ignored.  For any armored results, e.g. possibly a Secondary, or Critical results like CT, Ammunition or Engineering, you must be able to penetrate the armor.  Actually begs the question what about FP + Fire (1)?

Dave,

First thanks for getting back to me on this. I agree that range probably doesn't affect the optional rule, it seems the addition of the 3,000 YD range band addressed other issues. On the optional rule I am reading it that you first roll for the number of hits on the CRT, then per the optional rule you 1/2 the number of hits, then you roll that many dice and only get a hit if your roll gets a critical hit, a secondary hit, or a tertiary hit as you described. Is this correct?

Thanks,

Ed

Yes, and if armored, only if you penetrate.
