Played a quick intro tank game last night with a buddy

I was running some M10's and M4A2 (76)

I get the Sherman's having an OM2 of -2 but why is the M10's OM2 so poor? (-5)

I admit, I'm not a total tread head, but I'm wondering why the M10 has a poorer OM2 than the Sherman (I do know the later war Sherman's had better gun stabilization, but I thought that was strictly OM3 values?)

The question really should be "Why does the Sherman have a better OM2 than the M10?" The answer is that the Sherman has a rudimentary gun stabilization which reduces the OM2 value of the Sherman to a -2. Also, the 76mm gun in the M10 (76mm M7) is not quite as good as the 76mm gun in the M4A2 Sherman (76mm M1A1) in the statistics we use for accuracy.

I guess I didn't need to answer this one and it was better left to Kenny and Bob anyway.  Acctingman69, when it comes to why the stats are what they are, I may not be your guy.  I think Bob and Kenny have a better handle on this than I do and I concur with their answer.

In an nutshell, not all guns of the same caliber behave in exactly the same way and there are lots of factors that go into determining the stats on each of these vehicles including not only main gun but also armor and speed as well.

Thanks very much, Acctingman69!  I am happy to do what I can.  I think I can clarify any rules questions pretty well for the most part but when it comes to the nitty gritty of why a certain rule or stat is the way it is, I will usually defer to the guys here at ODGW.  I was a former tanker so I did have some real world experience but not in actual combat.

One reason the M10 had worse gun stats, is that the Sherman had a power traverse turret, the M10 was hand cranked, very tiring for the crew...

Regards, Phil
