Starting to base my US and German infantry. Curious to know how folks do their platoon basing? Do you base platoon leaders separately or designate a squad stand with the platoon leader on it?

I was thinking of keeping things simple for my platoons.

3 stands with 3-4 men to represent a squad and on 1 base put in the platoon MG/mortar.

Ok, for the activation question.

The unit is the platoon, correct? So, when I go to activate my platoons, each squad in that platoon gets a bonus action(as long as they are in command range) and their standard action?

Thanks

Hey! :)

I base 1-2 command figures on a stand for a command stand for the platoon.

As to you activation question:

  • When a platoon is activated all stands in the platoon get a standard action and all stands that are within command radius of the command stand get a bonus move.

Hi Acctingman69

I base my platoons typically with three 4 man squads on 3/4" x 3/4" inch bases.  I also have a Command Team for the platoon of 2 to 3 figures on a 1/2" square base.  Weapons teams will be on bases appropriate for their size such as 2 man Bazooka and Panzerschreck teams on 1/2 square bases and prone AT rifles on 1/2" x 3/4" bases.

Here are a few examples of my infantry based for Mein Panzer.

Late War German Infantry Squad - 4 figures with 1 prone LMG, 1 Squad Leader, and 2 Riflemen.

Another example with advancing LMG, 1 Squad Leader, and 2 Riflemen.

Platoon Leader Command Team.  Platoon Leader kneeling with 2 other figures.  You can use just 2 if you prefer.

Company Command Team with Company CO and Rifleman.  Just 2 figures.

Panzerschreck Team.  2 figures only.

Russian AT Rifle Team.  2 figures prone on a 1/2" x 3/4" base.

I hope this helps a bit.  Four figures seem to fit well on the 3/4" base to represent the squad which actually has 8 to 12 guys or more in some cases depending on nationality.  To get all of those guys to fit you would need a much larger base which in my opinion is not practical for gaming.

Peter

So, any platoon with LMG goes on 1 of the squad stands, but what about a heavy weapon (.50 cal for example) does that get it's own stand like a bazooka team?

Thanks

Hi Acctingman69

During WWII most countries had LMGs integral to the squad.  MMGs and HMGs were usually in separate teams so I base them that way similar to a bazooka team or a mortar etc.

If you look in the data book, most infantry squads have an LMG integral though there are a few that do not have one.  There are some late war German squads that actually had 2 LMGs assigned to the squad.  MMGs were usually at either Company or Battalion level and parceled out as needed but in separate teams, not typically parceled out to a particular squad.

Here are a few heavy weapons that I have based.

Russian 45mm AT guns.  These are on 1/2"x3/4" bases.

Russian 76mm Infantry guns.  These are on 1/2"x3/4" bases.

Russian 50mm mortars.  These are on 3/4" square bases since they are prone.
