Yes the carrier engagement ends if the result you rolled comes up. It is assumed the two sides lost contact, and strikes are not sent off blind.Played the 1st came of our campaign today. Allied CG vs. IJN CG. Weather was mostly clear and the d12 roll indicated Allied strike advantage. End result was 1 bomb hit on an IJN CV. Next roll on the d12 indicated unable to locate enemy battle ends. As I understand it this would completely end the carrier engagement and both Alied and IJN CGs would return to port (even if both sides did not wish to disengage). Is this correct?Next action will be a IJN bombardment from Truk, bumping into a Allied Supply + Escort (engagement D)

There were squalls and a light fog along the coast of Guadalcanal as the action began.
The IJN forces approched from the NW, with all the DD's and a CL proceeding 4 CA's. The USN forces were deployed in 3 columns. the center column of 4 CA's with a column of 3 DD's screening to port and starboard. A single DD was also patrolling 4kyrds from USN AP's anchored off Lunga Point. The AP's were completely covered by the fog.
As the result of a supply mission the USN ran to Guadacanal, there was a night surface action fought off Lunga point IJN foces engaged:
5 x cruiser
9 x Destroyer
The USN forces sank 1 x DD, Severely damaged a cruiser (CL), and damaged to some unknown extent 2 more cruisers (CA).
USN forces engaged:
4 x Cruisers
7 x Destroyer
In the area offloading supplies:
3 x APs
1 x APD
USN losses were not light.
4 x DD's from DesRon 6 were lost to extremely powerful torpedos
USS Selfridge (Squadron Flagship)
USS Madison lost with all hands
USS Mayo
USS Niblack
USS Gleaves sustained damage limiting its speed and placing a 5" turret Out Of Action
The cruiser force while not lossing any ships was roughly handled
USS Astoria was severely damaged and will need to return to the States for extensive repairs.
USS Portland was heavily damaged but should be repairable at Pearl Habor and possibly return to action in 60 days.
USS San Francisco was slightly damaged and could remain in theater at your discreation.
Despite these grievous losses the supply mission was a success with no damaged sustained to any transports. This action prevented the IJN from preforming its primary mission of bombarding the Marines at Henderson field.
