It's nice to see another campaign pacakge for GQ3 released, even if it isn't one I'm particularly interested in. Are there plans to release more in the future?

I am quite curious why you wnet with a non-historical campaign given the number of historical operations available. What about teh following:

  • Aleutians
  • Java Sea
  • Atlantic surface raiders
  • Murmansk convoys
  • many med actions (crete, taranto, malta convoys, axis convoys to africa

Thanks

Peter

Well, there were several reasons for doing a campaign on this period. First, its a period when the big gun battleship still held sway, before the rise of the airplane to the dominant role it would hold during WWII. Aircraft are important, but in a supporting role. Second, there has always been an interest in the USN's 'Plan Orange' (the Navy's ongoing and constantly revised warplan for a Pacific war with Japan). And finally, to our knowledge, a game of this nature and detail (operational and tactical) about this period has never really been done before. And I might add, this is definitely NOT WWII with biplanes. Anyone who attempts to play it that way would quickly find themselves in the deep end of the pool! It deinitely requires a different mindset from WWII or WWI.

As to other campaigns in the pipeline... Well, some are being considered and early work is under way. But it is way too early to comment further.

Thanks for the update, I'll look forward to them showing up some time in the future...

I do think it's cool that you did the "what-if" package, I just would have figured you get more sales from a historical situation.

Cheers

Peter,

The Aleutians is already covered in a free campaign in the Bonus files section. And the advantage of the campaign chosen is that it involves a lot of elements that many historical campaigns do not have. In a sense, we were freed from the constraints of history to come up with a campaign that no one has done before using ships that have not been seen in their original configurations.

As mentioned, there already is an Aleutians campaign - Operation Landcrab.

And since you brought up the Med, it seems a good reason to inquire again about paragraph 4.12 PREPARED CAMPAIGNS from the GQ3 rule book:
"To get you started, we’ve posted two campaigns we enjoyed during play-testing at http://www.odgw.com for your use."

The two campaigns listed are Operation Landcrab and Mare Nostrum.

Note in the past tense "posted" in the sentence I cut & paste from the rule book.

Dave

True enough on Land Crab, but past forum posts show that Mare Nostrum was taken off line for re-tooling and has never gone back on line.

Mare Nostrum is under going a substantial rewrite, transforming it from its original form.

We expect that it will be another campaign in the Decisions at Sea series.
