In the Santo Domingo 1806 scenario I'm putting together, the British fleet starts out with three ships on the board, and their sister squadron trailing several turns behind.  In the original boardgame scenario, these ships come in on turns 3,4,5 and 10 (each boardgame turn is about 3 minutes, so that works nicely).  It seems possible then, that the trailing squadron could be in a position to use an Extended Move while the first squadron is using Tactical Moves.

My question is:  Should there be a problem with one squadron using Extended Moves while another squadron does not, given the situation as described above?  In thinking about this, I would have the Extended Move squadron move after all other ships have moved, and require them to cease EM at 1,000 yards from the opposition, as per the rulebook.

That shouldn't be a problem, provided you keep close tabs on the movement sequence (you don't want a squadron doing extended moves to inadvertently double up a move).

My thought towards trying to prevent something like a double move was to only let them move on the Blue tactical phase of the turn, after all other ships have done their thing, but before Rigging & Repair or Command phases.  If, during their move, they come within 1000 yards of an enemy ship, then EM stops right then and they join the regular movement phases on the next turn.

That should work fine.  In fact, we've used something similar in our games.

Then that's how it will be done.  No need to reinvent the wheel.
