Well I am on holiday this week and with the weather being so cold – I ended up playing a solo game of Mein Panzer. We have been playing some games with defences and pillboxes and so set up a set-piece assault on a defended German position loosely set during the Bagration operation. Posted Image

The pillboxes housed Pak 40's - the trench line housed a couple of platoons of infantry and some infantry guns. The forces on the hills in the distance contained another platoon of infantry with MMG support and 3 dug-in 88’s. Posted Image

The Soviets lay smoke on the forces that include the pillboxes. In the distance on the hill 152mm howitzers pound the 88 positions. Posted Image

Two companies of T34's (mainly 76's) roll onto the board opposite the smoke barrage. This is going to be the main axis of attack. Posted Image

The 75 ATG in the pillbox that is not obscured by smoke takes out the leading T34's. Posted Image

The Soviet's that approach the hills without smoke cover soon take casualties. Posted Image

The Soviet's charge like crazy at the German lines in the distance - casualties mount but they still keep coming. The T34's in the foreground fail nearly every morale check they are asked to take! They will not hang around long at this rate. Posted Image

The Soviets advance right up to the German trenches. The German shreks take out a couple of over eager T34's. Posted Image

Birds eye view of the battle as the Soviets try to break through the German lines - the Soviet infantry is moving up fast to begin to clear the trench line. Posted Image

On the far side of the board things are finely balanced - all the German Hetzers are destroyed and the hidden Wespes in the woods have opened ineffectual fire and one succumbs to the return fire of the few remaining T34's. Posted Image

The Soviet Infantry arrive and begin trying to clear the trench line - by this point, morale was failing left, right and centre for both sides. Posted Image
