Hello Captains,

I just picked up the Post Captain rule set, as small engagements appeal to me far more than the larger, fleet battles.

I've only just glanced through the PDF, and there's quite a bit to unpack.

As I'm a hobbyist AND gamer, I've decided that 1:700 is my scale, allowing for some great detail. For me, building the ships is more than half the reason to get into the game!

That said, what sources of 1:700 miniatures have folks been using?

I know of the existence of Warlord, Old Meridian, and Artists Hobby, and Mann O' War, though I have no direct experience with any of them yet.

I totally agree with that sentiment. I've seen some photos of some pretty exquisite card models of sailing ships, but they are 1/600 (see here):

Schoon,

You will find Post Captain an excellent set of rules for small scale actions. Fleet actions can be hard to manage, but the rules are superb for what you have in mind.

I also agree with your thoughts on scale. I have two Meridian ships, a frigate and a 74. They are really outstanding. The resin ships, while expensive, are very detailed. The photo-etched sails are nice.

You might also check out Rod Langton's 1:300 ships:  They are magnificent, though there aren't' many to choose from.

Looking forward for my first order of ships to arrive.

I've also decided to pick up the Langton book on paint and rigging. So much to learn.

Jerry - I'm afraid that 1:300 might be a bit big for the game table, even though they'd be fun to build.

There's always the driveway.
