I figured out how to make a wadi on my wargaming board.

A wadi is usually dry, except after rare rainfall.

Wadis are basically dry river beds and can be various widths just like real rivers.  In Arizona, where I live, we have lots of these from small "arroyos" to larger full blown riverbeds except the river is dry but they can be quite wide.  I have a wadi in progress for my Terrain Maker layout which I will get to finishing one of these days.
