Hey everyone!  There will be a game convention called DEFCON held at Ft Huachuca, AZ on February 21st and 22nd.

I plan to go and run a couple games of Mein Panzer there and see who all shows up.  I had not heard of this convention before so it might be new this year.

I just got back from attending DEFCON last weekend down at Ft, Huachuca, AZ.  For a first time game convention, I thought things went very well.  I managed to run 2 games of Mein Panzer while I was there plus play in a Black Powder Gettysburg game.  I had a great time.

Here are a couple of pictures of Mein Panzer  from the convention.

Here are some more pictures from DEFCON.   There were a lot of games being played there including Bolt Action, Black Powder Gettysburg, Waterloo, Warhammer, Blackout, and some others including Mein Panzer.

This was a first time convention of this type at Ft. Huachuca, AZ, and I think that overall it went very well.

For Mein Panzer, I put on my "Cruisin' for a  Bruisin'" scenario twice.  I had 2 players for a demo game on Saturday afternoon and 2 other players for a demo game on Sunday morning.  Of the 4 players, 3 were completely new to the game but enjoyed the game very much and were asking where to get the rules and miniatures as well as questions on the terrain.  This scenario is a nice simple tank battle that introduces the basic rules to the players and gets them into the game quickly.

In addition to running Mein Panzer, I played in a game of Black Powder - Gettysburg, the First Day.  I was defeated as the Union but had a great time.  This was my first foray into Black Powder and learned it from scratch as well as my opponent.  After a few turns we got the hang of it pretty well.

Thanks very much, Kenny!  It was a lot of fun.

My approach to hosting Mein Panzer for this convention was to keep things simple and to run games that the new players could enjoy and learn the rules but not feel they had to win.  I almost brought a second set of terrain and minis for a Russian Front scenario that I ran at Sand Wars last year but decided to focus on the one scenario.  It also significantly decreased the amount of stuff I had to haul in my car and transport to and from the Murr Community Center which hosted the convention.

I had 4 players for my 2 games and the 3 newbies seemed very enthusiastic about the rules and the game.  It was a win for me.  One of them is interested in attending my games in the greater Phoenix area in the future.

There were a fair number of military people at the convention and the event was organized by military people.  It was a great venue.
