I'm a bit confused about the example of backward movement on page 2.5, where you write that moving backwards in soft ground would cost 4 pips.As I understand the rules, and we have always played like that, is that when for example a wheeled vehicles with 8 pips is starting its backward movement in soft ground, the vehicle first expends the 2 extra pips for the soft ground, and then with the 6 remaining pips the vehicle can move 3" .Or is this wrong?

Movement in soft ground costs 2 movement points. You have to pay double for the backward movement in soft ground thus the 1st PIP of reverse movement in soft ground would cost 4 PIPS, leaving the the vehicle in you example 4 PIPs of movement which would be 2" of reverse movement. This would move the wheeled vehicle 3" total.
