Hi folks,
this may be poor eyesight on my part but I can't find logs for members of this DD class in the Amendment 1 logs or in the Solomons supplement. 6 of the class were at Coral which is what I'm looking to use the logs for. I could easily knock up some logs but I'm not sure what the weapons fit was at Coral sea, had they lost their no 3 5" mount yet. Judging by the photo evidence and text in Whitley (my only source on USN DD) they all had in 41. Could someone point me to a Sims log please or confirm what the weapons fit was at Coral Sea.
Cheers

Adrian,
As close as can be be determined, the Sims class lost their no.3 5" late in 1941 (prior to Decemeber) to free up weight for more AA guns. As built, the class was seriously overweight (a running theme of many of the pre-war US DD designs). As close as I've been able to find, the Sims class had 4 5"/38 DPs, 8 21" torpedoes (2x4 on the centerline) and 6 20mm AA by Coral Sea. Also, there is strong evidence that they received FD fire control and SC-1 air search radar (both with a '-' rating) prior to their transfer to the Pacific Fleet in early 1942 (at the start of the war they had been with the Atlantic Fleet). Finally, they would have 7 hull boxes with a speed of 35kts.
Hope this helps!

Actually I've just spotted 'Walke' of the class in the GQ3 amendment 1 ship logs. Don't know how I missed it earlier but the good news is the log is fully consistent with your answer. Thanks again.
