Just working my way through the torpedo rules. Section 7.4.2 states under the "range" bullet:"The standard range torpedoes move per game turn is listed on the left hand scale of the CRT. A slower, Long-Range scale is listed on the right side of the CRT. This range scale is used only wtih the optional rules"Where are these optional rules located? I don't think this refers to the alternative Fleet Action method of handling torps. Thanks!

The Optional Rule referenced is in GQ3 (which was unfortunately left out of FAI). The text of the optional rule in question from GQ3 is: 1.4.10 Long Range Torpedo SettingAn optional, slower long-range torpedo setting is listed to the right of the TORPEDO CRT for most navies. A captain canselect the long-range setting for a torpedo spread by writing “LR” on the launch point post-it/masking tape when the attackis plotted. Once launched, the torpedo speed setting cannot be changed. Does not apply to aerial torpedoes. This can be used with both the original Torpedo rules and the Fleet Alternative rules.Nearly all ship mounted torpedoes had several speed/range settings ranging from high speed/short range to slow speed/long range. Normal practice was to use the Standard speed/range setting as this generally met the needs for most engagements. The trade off for the longer range setting was, of course, a lower chance of hitting your target. This optional rule allows for the use of the slow speed/long range setting.
