Had anyone tried this? When I imagine how this can be, I always come to the same end: Convoy/deadly Waters used single airplanes, while GC3 uses groups of 3 planes, (2 for USA and thus not applicable for convoy.)so my question is, Most of the events in Convoy/Deadly Waters are a single bomber attacking the formation, are there any modification needed to convert CG3 hit chances from the probability of three bombers hitting to one bomber hitting the target, This also should work with Anti aircraft fire, a hit in GC3 down all 3 aircraft so the probability of hitting only one aircraft should be higher. .......Should the answer be: threat all aircraft as snooper intercept, either fighters, bombers or reccon aircraft?I would like that amendment 2 bring a new stardard to aircrafts and put them in the basis of single unit per counter/miniatureThank you

Darth,You stated that, “Most of the events in GQ are a single bomber attacking the formation….” - I think you were referring to events in Mal. Wright’s Convoy/Deadly Waters series rather than GQ, which uses flights. The three-plane flight was specifically selected as the basic aircraft level when designing GQ because it reflects the smallest tactical formation adopted by the air forces of all nations, in one form or another, in the WWII era. They gravitated to the “flight” as it was the minimum required to provide a reasonable probability for bombing as well as enabling the aircraft to assist in self-protection. Bombing probability by an individual airplane was abysmally low when strikes were opposed - even in the ever-optimistic view of aviators. Hence, it took numbers of planes to provide any expectation of success.Amendment 2 will continue to reflect this tactical reality. I would add that shifting to individual planes would mean that simulating most air strikes of the era would then require cumbersome numbers of miniatures, combined with excessive die rolling for very low probabilities. Not something that would appeal to many gamersThat said, Mal.’s innovative Convoy/Deadly Waters series features cases of individual aircraft attacks in the specialized conditions, which existed in the Atlantic in the early years of WW II. For a while, glide bombing attacks and low level/skip bombing attacks could be made by individual FW 200 and Luftwaffe medium bombers with some success against poorly defended convoys well out at sea. These worked against slow moving merchant ship targets with limited maneuverability or knowledge of evasive tactics. Once AA defenses improved and captains grew more experienced, these special conditions ended. While the GQ III CRTs are designed for flights, you can employ the following adjustments to simulate the single aircraft attacks in Convoy/Deadly Waters:1. Add “+ 2” to the D12 results for single plane Glide Bomb and Skip Bomb attacks.2. A single plane Level bombing attack still requires a “1” result to straddle the target, but results for the second D12 (when the target is straddled) are revised to “1” = Hit and “2 – 3” = Near Miss. Results of “4” or more are ineffective. Finally, AA attacks remain unchanged as a single plane target allows concentration of all fire against it, rather than spreading fire over multiple airplanes in a flight. Single aircraft would defend in aerial combat using the “Snooper & FP” row at the bottom of the AERIAL CRT. Note also that a Destroyed or Damaged result on a flight represents loss or damage to part of a flight and disruption to the rest as provided in rule Section 4.5.7 on page 4-6. This does not apply to single plane losses, which are final.Mal.’s creative Convoy/Deadly Waters system and GQ III work well together to recreate a fast moving, enjoyable simulation of the convoy battles in this era. These adjustments should help you add single bomber attacks.LONNIE

Thank, you are right about my error of single airplane in General Quarters, it is for deadly waters. I wrote it correct in the first paragraph, but wrong in the second.Hey, I think this weekend a new convoy is assembling to cross the arctic using Journey to the End of the Earth by Mal Wright and General Quarters III.I hope to end all turns using "full GQ3 rules", if not, later turns will be gamed using operational 8 hours turns from GC3.
