The rules for this in the Amendments says that it replaces the time consuming target interception determination.
I don't understand this. Don't the streamlined rules still require you to determine whether an enemy vessel is in the current range band of the torpedo?
What am I missing? Thanks?

Yes, but the torpedo bearing is not required, only the arc into which the torpedo is fired is necessary. Also because it is considerably easier to put a torpdeo into an arc with a ship in it, the To-hit roll is changed from a D12 to a D20.The rules for this in the Amendments says that it replaces the time consuming target interception determination.
