It seems as though there are two types of Acquisition, reading the rules. The first one dices for on the Night Acquisition Table during the Detection Phase, and is permanent. The other is Acquisition of Illuminated Targets, which appears to be temporary and apply only to the Gunnery Phase, as then the Searchlight or Starshell or Flare goes out and you lose that Acquisition as the target is no longer Visible.

1. If you Acquire a Target during the Gunnery Phase, is it Acquired the same as if you rolled for it during the Detection Phase? Or do you lose the Acquisition at the end of the Gunnery Phase?

2. Is it possible to Acquire a target that is illuminated at a greater distance than the Night Acquisition Table allows you? For example, the USN maxes out during a New Moon at 12,000y for Night Acquisition - they can't even rolle at 16,000y and higher. If a target at 18,000y is Illuminated is it still automatically Acquired? Or does that automatic Acquisition only apply if it is within the band of possible rolled Acquisitions.
