Hello everyone;
I posted this in the "general" section, but thought I might get a quicker response if I posted it here as well...

--------------------

While taking in all the great information on this forum, I have run across several instances where "Splash Markers" are mentioned. I have gone through the rules but have not found a mention of them (GQ3 to be specific). Am I missing something? What are splash markers used for?

Thank you,
Skip

Splash markers are not used, per se, in GQ3. However, some gamers use them as hit markers in lieu of the dice mentioned in the text.

Thank you for the reply Coastal... I had a feeling that was the case, and it's a great idea! I'm going to put in an order to Litko. I'm a huge fan of their products and they have some really nice splash markers available.

Thanks again,

I use Splash markers for pre-allocation of Salvos. Each ship CA and above has it's own splash marker with its ship name and it's gun calibre on it. The firer places the spalsh marker on the target on the side closest to the firer for the first salvo. You work your way through the targets resolving each splash marker. All splash markers are then moved beyond the target to show it is aquired for the next salvo. The firer may move it to another target for the next salvo in the next turn if he wishes or leave it. This speeds up gunfire resolution and prevents cheating by forcing all firers to pre-allocate firing rather than switching targets mid turn if thir original target is sunk. These are made from metal bases and a row of carpet tacks blunted with a hammer glued on. Looks cool in 1/6000.

I will second everything Pat (Padraic Kirby) said. It also makes it obvious who needs to incur the "2+ batteries" modifer. I have 1/2400 ships, so mine are white drywall screw anchors on round washers (pained sea blue).

You could do what the real navy's did. Color code you splash markers for each ship. Many navies had colored dye in the shells to aid in spotting.

Nice idea Frank, maybe use different color splash markers for your various vessels
