Thanks Peter...I wait to hear of Otranto sliding down the ways of your yard, lol.

I really should get started on it and several others from the Coronel and Falklands.  I personally requested both the Otranto and Canopus from GHQ.  They have delivered and now it is up to me.

Finally sat down at the bench to paint some ships and realized I'm out of paint. Sadly, there's not a shop within 30 miles of me with a decent selection, especially sprays. Fired off an order to Michigan Toy Soldier this AM.

After a bit of work (general clean-up and drilled/added a main-mast), HMS Dunedin will have to wait...

Closest shop with a decent inventory is 35 miles up the road. Best shop that carries a vast inventory is nearly 70 miles out. The shop I had been going to has drastically reduced their inventory, now catering predominantly to the model railroaders. Mail order is convenient, but I'd rather support brick-n-mortar.

I need to get in the habit of resupplying as the workbench inventory dwindles, not waiting until it's gone. I don't have that problem with the lead/resin pile...it remains large

I usually try to maintain a good stock of all the colors I use the most.  It is annoying to get ready to start painting and then find out that tin of Humbrol or whatever else you are using is either gone or just dried up or turned gunky.

Back in the day, when I was traveling to the greater LA area in California a lot, I would try to swing by Brookhurst Hobbies in Garden Grove to pick up more Humbrols as they had a very good selection.  Now I mostly do mail order.

Ah, Brookhurst Hobbies...I haven't been there in many years. Back in my early days working for Hughes, I'd try to visit the shop each time out to California. They are just a few miles dead east of Long Beach, so an easy diversion some evening when left to my own entertainment. I think I likely still have 1/35-scale armor kits around here that were purchased at Brookhurst. In these waning days of brick-n-mortar hobby shops, Brookhurst remains a beacon...I'll have to get back out there someday.

So the vendor I ordered paint from flipped me an email a couple days ago to say that at least two of the jars/cans I ordered are out of stock, and to ask if I wanted what they have on-hand shipped now and the rest when it comes in, or just wait a week or so for it all to be available. I told them to just wait. I did point out to them that the on-line ordering tool indicated everything was in stock, but then at some point you're left feeling like you're just whining, lol. No worries...when it gets here it gets here. Dunedin's been sitting in the lead-pile for ages; what's a few more days?

In other matters, I did find a sheet of 1/100-scale Bundeswehr decals printed by Peddinghaus. They look sharp, so maybe now I can get the Leopard I's and the Marders finished and off the workbench. They've been cluttering up the place for nearly a year.

Still waiting for the paint order, ugh. In the meantime, a little, and I mean very little, postwar action...HMS Oberon in 1/2400:

HMS Oberon

A resin cast by XPForge, it's mounted on an ODGW etched base. My UK buddies tell me the Oberon-class was a terrifically successful class of submarines, a number of them continuing in service up until the late 1990s in second-tier roles.

Great work on HMS Oberon, Healey!  I have never painted a submarine in 1/2400 scale before.  I think I have a few GHQ submarines in 1/2400 such as Type VIIC and maybe the Gato class but not painted as yet.

Thanks Peter...not much to it really - a spray of black paint, a white dot where a pennant number would be, label and a base. Bob's your uncle, ready for action.

While we're on about subs, I finally got around to rebasing Baltimore. Another example of Matt Schreck's work, a few more markings than Oberon:

USS Baltimore

Commissioned in 1982, Los Angeles-class Baltimore was taken out of service in 1998 (after just half the service life of Oberon).

Hey Healey, just checking to see if are still gaming? Your stuff looks great. What part of the country are you living in?

Well silly me, I didn't go forward enough to see your latest message. Did you ever figure out how to mount your infantry?

Hey Dan, good to hear from you. Yes, still gaming here in Maryland, but it’s become very sporadic as my local group imploded. Now things only happen if I can set sessions up myself. I’ve gotten into Historical Battle Lines of late, so the ships/tanks have taken a bit of a backseat. Time’s been kinda short as well. Hoping to get back to a full spectrum of stuff soon.

I’ve been basing 1/285-1/300 infantry on small round penny-sized plywood bases I get from Litko; 15mm (1/100) WWII stuff I’ve been basing on Battlefront plastic, but only because I have a bunch of them; 15mm (1/100) pike/shot/rifle/saber stuff I’ve been basing on homemade basswood bases or laser cut plywood bases I get from Litko.

The leadpile remains massive. At this point in my life (just turned 68), I’m dedicated to knocking the pile down and trying to avoid buying more stuff. Mixed bag on that, lol, but it sounds good.

I've got my infantry stands based on rectangular metal bases, 4 figures represent a squad.

Wish my lighting and camera were better.

Hi Dan

I also base my infantry on either square or rectangular bases.  I use the flat metal ones from Wargame Accesories.  There is no right or wrong in basing but I use 4 figures on a 3/4"x3/4" base for a squad and 2 or sometimes 3 figures on a 1/2"x1/2" base for my teams.  Some teams require 3/4"x1/2" bases if they are prone.  Guns have bases that fit both the gun and crew.

Here are a couple pictures.

I too still have plenty of infantry to paint but enough done to do an infantry game if needed.
