Here is a quick AAR of our last game. The scenario was set sometime in the summer of 1944. A Soviet assault on a German held village. The Soviets start with overwhelming superiority but have only 4 turns before German reinforcements arrive to even things up.I took the role of the assaulting Soviets and Iven defended with the Germans. The German defenders who started onboard had a rifle platoon, supported with a couple of 8cm mortars and a MMG. There was also a Tiger, 2 Stugs and 2 Wespes. These had to set up in the village and surrounding woodlands. On turn 4 the German reinforcements included a platoon of panzergrenadiers, with a supporting MMG section. A company of PzVl G1’s, 2x 7/1 Quad flak vehicles and a platoon of Tigers and Panthers. The Soviets assaulted with a motorised rifle company, with 45ATG and MMG support sections. 2 reduced T34 tank companies, some SU76M’s, BA10’s, ISU122’s. Also a forward observer in a Gaz-67 spotting for 4 120mm mortars.

Iven setting up his defense - his tanks skulked in the woods behind the low hill or in the graveyard.Post edited by: Trotsky, at: 2006/02/06 14:29

The Sturmovik survives a hail of AA fire to release a pair of rockets at the advancing Tigers. One is on target the other undershoots and hits another! Posted Image

Unfortunately the camera ran out of batteries at this point. The German advance proved too much for the Soviets. The Sturmovik was shot down, the Soviets briefly held the village, but the Germans proved too strong. The Panthers took the high ground and eventually eliminated anything that moved!A good battle, with Iven using his infantry to the full to keep the Germans busy. The Soviet mortars were particularly effective causing a great deal of damage to the Germans. Too many T34/85 were taken out early – the Stugs in the graveyard were hard to shift. Ultimately the Panthers optics and guns were too good for the remaining Soviet armour.

Way cool! Like your hills - the stepped effect is very good. I see that you have Scott Washburn's paper Russian village set. I have it too, and plan on putting it together for our next east front game. Thanks!Gregory
