The ISU122's (off-screen) finally take out the wooden bunker - the ATG inside had caused a great deal of problems for the Soviets. Posted Image

The Soviets gain ground in the near trench - Soviet infantry are about to begin the assault on the far trench system. T34's are still taking fire from the ATG in the concrete bunker and the wood line. Posted Image

Unable to wait for the infantry - T34's have to assault the ATG directly! Posted Image

Some Stugs swing around to defend the ATG’s but are caught in the open by the circling Sturmoviks. Posted Image

Overview of the battle. The battle for the trenches is taking place in the background. In middle German infantry are leaving their trenches to support the far battle. In the foreground the Soviet tank assault has run out of steam. Posted Image

German forces in the trenches are surrounded by infantry and tanks. The Soviets make sure they steer clear of the ATG in the concrete pillbox. Posted Image

The situation at game end - with the German command routed, morale all along the German line begins to crumble. Although the German's have quite a few intact units they are not mobile enough to have an effect on the mobile battle the Soviets are undertaking.A sound Soviet victory! Posted Image

I have been reading around the Bagration offensive of '44 and have been thinking of producing a few linked scenarios based on my reading. This battle was very loosely based on the fighting of elements of the 11th Guards Army attempting to clear the Minsk-Moscow Highway in Belorussia during late June 1944. The area around the highway had been heavily fortified by the Germans and the line was held by the 78th Sturm division. German intelligence knew of the impending attack and reinforced the defences with some Stugs, AA guns, Nashorns and Marders.Historically the Soviets massive assault on this sector did not produce an initial breakthrough. Defences were eventually breached and despite the commitment of reserves only a few hundred metres of ground was gained on the first day of the offensive. There were some elements of the battle I did not include such as the use of flame-thrower and flail equipped Soviet tanks. The Germans did have several belts of mines but they had a minimal effect on the game I played. Thanks for your positive comments.
