I read recently in a detailed book about the years 41-42 that Japs fleet air units were quite able to coordinate attacks starting from different carriers, at least in the same TF. Should we allow this and  use the rule's uncoordinated version only for the US? or maybe with a die roll for failures.

I should think that the IJN coordinated air attacks should be allowed, as they did it at Pearl Harbor and then at Coral Sea and Midway.

I am NOT an official rules interpreter, but I think your question is valid and based on facts.

There is optional rule 4.5.3 amended Campaign Air Movement on page 5-15:  • IJN Multi-Carrier Strikes  By 1941, the Japanese developed techniques for joining squadrons from multiple carriers of the same kokutai (division) into combined air strikes.

There are some other restrictions.

Frankly based on how the IJN operated early war, even the "same kokutai (division)" limitation may be too restrictive...

Thanks! I vaguely knew I saw it when I was reading this book but several searches in the rules failed for some reasons. Now I can claim to use it without a scandal!
