I'm looking at an example of where one tank is firing at the side of another tank with vehicle machine guns at 2". The Firing vehicle VMMG has offensive value of 0 but the AP Mods for small arms says at that range it's +1. So the final OV is 1 minus side armor of 3, giving us a -2 on the left side of the Kill Chart. At -2 there is a chance of killing the target tank if rollig a 1-4. I puposely picked the side armor so someone wouldn't say "maybe they hit the drivers vision slot".

My question is how does a medium machine gun kill a tank with a side armor of 30mm (Exampel PZIIIG with side armor of 3)? By all accounts the tank should be empervious to Medium Machine gun file.

Dan,

Hello and welcome to the forums.   The AP Modifiers only apply to tank cannon fire and not machine guns.

I believe that I need to correct Kenny here. The Small Arms OV value is used for infantry weapons is used against a vehicle. Your example is correct. There is a chance for a mission kill on a 1-4 (20% chance). Remember that even side armor has strengths and weeknesses. Engine and fuel tanks are accessable to a penetrating round and machineguns do have AP capability and this capability is evident at very very close range (2") especially with the number of rounds that MGs put out. We, as game designers have to account for these variables in as simple as possible way, which we call playability. Your scenario is also what I would call an edge case, as there are alot of things that can happen if a vehicle or infantry stand manages to move to 2" of a target vehicle: reactionary fire, Overwatch, etc.. At a standard range of 12" the tank is impervious to Small arms.
