I understand the kill chart is broken into 1. targeting vehicles on left or 2. Targeting infanty on right.

But firing at an ATG seems like it could be either. What is the correct process?

1. Fire on the ATG using AP OV

2. Fire on the ATG using HE OV

3. Fire on the ATG Gun Crew using HE FP

Even at close range I have the option (I think) of:

1. Firing using MMG FP vs crew

2. Firing using MMG OV vs gun

I'm sure I must be overthinking this....But it is confusing (to me anyway). Also when it comes to soft target like trucks....It's a vehicle (meaning left side of kill table), but since trucks are not armored does one have a choice of firing on it with FP instead of OV? LMG or MMG seems like an easy kill if within range . I guess FP on a truck doesn't make sense since you logically can't 'suppress' of 'pin' a truck with no crew.

Dan,

Hopefully I can clarify.

ATG can be either self propelled or towed.   SPATG are attacked like any other vehicle.  Towed ATG (or any other open crewed system has two targets, the system itself and the crew.  As GM my recommendation to new players is to attack a towed ATG with HE.  Then you can use the HE OV against the gun and the HE FP against the crew.   It still counts as one attack however, there are two valid targets in the same space.   So one "To Hit" roll and two "To Kill" rolls.

And as you mentioned MMG or HMG are excellent options against crew-served systems.   It's the gamers choice.

As for trucks, I think Chapter 8 in the rules p. 8.3 HE Modifiers will help to clarify.

OMG!   I would have never thought that it would apply to two targets but that makes a lot of sense. If you miss one, it won't matter if you get the second. thanks very much. I guess if firing a 2pdr, one's only choice then is to use APOV against the gun or if close enough use MMG vs the crew. Thanks

I remember having this same sort of conundrum a few years ago in games with AT guns.  There is nothing that prohibits using AP against AT guns but HE is generally the better way to go if you have a gun that can shoot decent HE.  MG is also viable but you may need to get closer to have an effect.

In the real world, tankers would generally save their AP rounds for hard targets such as other tanks and use HE on the AT guns or trucks or whatever else.  There are limited rounds on board a tank and a variety of types so you need to determine which round works best for the target you are engaging.

HE is typically the most numerous round carried in a limited space or a self-propelled system.  This is due to the wider variety of targets that can be killed.  I have a listing of typical ammo loadouts for various tanks.

Also with HE in MPC you get the attack against the ATG and an attack against the crew.  The gamer doesn't get this with an AP attack.   Just sayn'...   <grin>

I have to say, Kenny, that until you mentioned it yesterday, I was not aware that the HE could damage both crew and gun on 2 separate Kill rolls.  It does make complete sense to me now.
