I understand the kill chart is broken into 1. targeting vehicles on left or 2. Targeting infanty on right.

But firing at an ATG seems like it could be either. What is the correct process?

1. Fire on the ATG using AP OV

2. Fire on the ATG using HE OV

3. Fire on the ATG Gun Crew using HE FP

Even at close range I have the option (I think) of:

1. Firing using MMG FP vs crew

2. Firing using MMG OV vs gun

I'm sure I must be overthinking this....But it is confusing. Also when it comes to soft target like trucks....It's a vehicle (meaning left side of kill table), but since trucks are not armored does one have a choice of firing on it with FP instead of OV? HE seems like the best option but if close range, MMG seems like best option to light up the target. I guess FP on a truck doesn't make sense since you logically can't 'suppress' of 'pin' a truck with no crew.

Hi Dan,

Firing at a ATG is resolved as directed in Chapter 8 The Kill Table, page 8.2, Attacks vs. Guns section:

"Guns in this case are defined as towed weapons, such as AT guns or artillery. In fact, guns actually present two targets. The first being the gun itself and the second being the crew, usually represented by a stand of infantry. When attacking a gun, the crew is assumed to standing in and around the gun regardless of where the actual crew stand is located.

Attacks against the gun are resolved like attacks against vehicles while crew hits are resolved as attacks against infantry. See the appropriate section on how to resolve."

Review the Small Arms vs. Guns, HE vs. Guns and AP vs. Guns sections with examples to get a better understanding  of the process for each type of attack agains the gun target.

As to Trucks, they will use the left side of the Kill Table. The header for this side is Vehicles (which include Trucks), Guns and Structures. When firing at Trucks that are not armored (yes, there are trucks that are armored. US used armored trucks in Vietnam) they will have an s0 armored value. The best way to kill a truck is with HE rounds (HE rounds get a +5 modifier when attempting to kill an s0 (Unarmored) vehicle  as AP rounds have a better chance to pass through the vehicle without much damage.

Check out Chapter 8 The Kill Table, page 8.3, 2nd column, Softskin Vehicle section, Chapter 14 Transport, page 14.2 1st column, Attacking Passengers section, and page 14.3 3rd column, Softskins section. for more information.

Hope this helps!
