Good Afternoon,

In reading through artillery rules on 10.2, the beaten zone is defined as "Whenever a stand moves through the area defined by connecting the numbers rolled that designated where the artillery shells landed."

I'm not sure what that means but if a barrage results in rolling a 17, 2, 12 and 5, does that mean I create lines that connects the squares to each other and that results an irregular pattern and inside that pattern is the beat zone.....(see attached)......or does it mean that the beaten zone includes the squares numbered 17, 2. 12 and 5 and any other square that are in between these four squares. Under that scenario, would I include squares 3, 11, 6, 1, and 4 as part of beaten zone?

Dan,

(I'll bring this up to Bob B. for an errata update maybe with an example of play with pretty pictures.  That way I can understand better too!  <grin>)

I went to the Artillery Drop in and re-read.  You are mostly correct.  There are 2 ways to mark an artillery beaten zone.

The section titled "Beaten Zone" doesn't make it real clear.  The beaten zone is all the boxes that the "shells" land in.  I used your example of artillery hits in box 2, 17, 5, and  12.  Anything in any box is hit (full or partial per the rules).   This method is suppose to make artillery hits easier to determine and play.  See the image below.

The section titled "Irregular Beaten Zone" is intended to allow for a more organic shape.   Your example above works fine.  You mark where the shells land and then connect the dots.  Anything "inside" the irregular pattern is hit (full or partial per the rules).

All this said.  Final interpretation of any beaten zone is always left to the Game Master discretion.

Mein Panzer was written by a very accomplished gamer and play tested extensively.    While neither he nor the rest of ODGW will demand a Game Master adhere to the strictest rules a la Games Workshop (40K).  We hope you find these rules written well enough to have a fun time.  Should you or any one decide a rule or mechanism of play needs "fixin' "  by all means make a house rule.  Above all the goal is to have fun battling out on a table top!

Hi Dan,

What Kenny said! :D

Hey Kenny,

This is a good time for the update to, since we are in the middle of updating the rule book.
