Maybe kind of an odd question, but I was wondering, what is the purpose of the bonus move in the game.  Is anything lost if it's just removed?  Is it mainly to provide an incentive to keep units in command range?   thanks!

Hi Paulinthehills!

As stated the bonus move is just that .... a move.  You cannot do anything else but use the bonus move to move.  You can also take a move action in addition to the other actions that are available to effectively double your movement rate.  If you want to get somewhere in a hurry this can be a good thing.

You can also use the bonus move to move into a firing position and then use your action to fire at OM2.  As stated, the bonus move can be used before, during, or after your standard action.
This is a good way to allow your tank to be in full defilade and then move up to shoot and then scoot back down into defilade again.  Typically, if your tank has a movement allowance of 4 or higher you can do it.

Having the bonus move is an incentive to stay within command range for sure.  Without the bonus move, you can either move or fire but not both.

I like having the bonus move and do not see a reason to discard this mechanic.

Command Range:  This is a way for units to maintain more realistic frontages.  Even with radios, tanks should be able to support each other and from personal experience, those radios sometimes don't always work for various reasons.  Taking away the bonus move for going out of command range is a fair way to penalize a player for spreading out too thin.  Your out of command unit can still move or shoot or whatever but cannot do it as efficiently as it can when under full command.

I hope this explanation helps.

Pete

One more thing about the "Bonus Move"   It can be used to load and unload infantry from a vehicle.  Load is a type of movement action.  A platoon of halftracks wants to unload it's infantry.  They use the bonus move to mount/dismount up to an inch (pip) away from the vehicle then both the vehicle and infantry stand have their standard action to complete the activation.

Hope this helps.
