State Farm 137 – a family affair. German infantry assault on Russian held State Farm. This was a very small engagement played between my wife and myself. It took about 2 hours to play from setup to completion.Sarah controlled the Germans, which consisted of 3 platoons of panzer grenadiers in 251/1s, each with a 251/10 in support. She also had a 251 mortar vehicle. The Germans were all veteran. The Russians had several platoons of regulars, a platoon of mortars, a MMG, a 45ATG, a T26 and two T70’s.The game was setup on a small 2x2 foot board. Posted Image

The Germans entered the board on the first turn all mounted in their halftracks. Posted Image

Sarah moved this group down the left of the board this gave me great concerns, as the defending forces there were weak in anti-armour weapons. Posted Image

Here I am considering writing a letter to Moscow complaining about the quality of the optics in my AFVs, as they fail to hit anything. Posted Image

The halftracks on the left of the board moved swiftly and attempted to overrun the Russians in the foxholes. Posted Image

A couple of suppressions on the Germans in the middle delayed them a little. Posted Image

On the right the T70’s moved around the woods to engage the Germans, however a 251/10 got first blood with an immobilisation result. Posted Image

Overview of the battle. The Germans on the left had virtually taken the foxholes on the hill. The Germans in the middle were bogged down by effective Russian fire. Posted Image

This is what I didn’t need – a 20 on a morale check! These guys were holding my centre. Posted Image

A stand off on the right of the board – the Germans had tried to close assault the T70’s but had not been successful. Posted Image

The ‘inspired’ Germans on the left hill of the board regrouped before continuing their assault. Posted Image

The Germans in the middle of the board advanced towards the position left empty by the routing Russians. However the Russian ATG slowed their progress with some accurate shooting. Posted Image
