MP is so flexible. I wonder if it would be possible to upscale it for large battles. What would it take to create platoon or company level statistics? Imagine a complete Division…this would open up turning maneuvers, penetrations, river crossings the Normandy breakout etc… This could even lend itself to long term theater campaigns. Any ideas out there?

I've had this question asked before and while I honestly don't have the time to take on the task, I'd like to see some ideas. Might be something we can post as a freebie on the website if a brave and adventurous sole worked out the details. :)

Let me start by saying I understand time is a premium commodity and noone is asking you to take on a new project. With that said my own idea was something on the line of the sum of a platoon's stats divided by the number of vehicles/stands present. Giving an average overall stat for each platoon. Then represent the company or platoon on a 1 vehicle to 1 company or platoon scale. The ground scale would have to be on the order of 1" to 250 yards on avg. Time scale upped to 30 minutes a turn. Notice this is just about a factor of five here. However it gets a bit tougher when considering things like cities and forests. A generalized feel of the situation here would help. Since I use apprx. 4" terrain hexes I would do this by stating any hex with 1 to 5 trees is thin enough for armor movement and more would block it. Any hex with buildings in it is urban, other terrain would be treated in much the same way. I could probably do a chapter by chapter review of MP and see what would upscale and identify problems in it.At the platoon scale, which is typically the smallest echelon unit that would not be seperated and detached. A typical battalion of three companies is represented by 15-20 models. A WWII US Combat Command by around a 150 miniatures and stands (give or take a few).A factor of about 15 for company scale, terrain around 1"=750 yds and a WWII US division with about 100 models/stands including corps attachments and support units. Both of these could easily fit into a tabletop setting. Most of MP's rules seem to easily work in this framework and we would need to identify drop in's that work with each of the scales. Playtesting would certainly be interesting. Well this is only a sketched out idea and would need a lot of work obviously. However, I think the idea could be fleshed out quite a bit.

If you get something that seems to work, let us know. ODGW is not like GW or the old TSR and demand you leave the system alone and play with only "official" rules and supplements. We WANT people to come up with playable ideas and post them, either on their website or ours. If you have some custom rules, let us know. If you don't have webspace to post them, we'll make some space for you.
