Back on the north... KG Schwarzkopf secures the northern trench with further HTH. Tough — by now the company has suffered 30% casualties. Attempting to take the next 2 trenches would be suicidal, as some of the flieger squads are low on ammo. No mortar smoke available.

At the end of turn 7, the game was called. The KG Juel's raiders had secured "The Grove" south of the eastern side of the bridge and had taken 2 trench positions on the slopes of hill 107. Neither side was in position to bump the other out of their snug foxholes.On the north side, Colonel Schwarzkopf managed not to get killed. They had taken the northern-most trench and had suffered 33% or a little more in casualties in doing so. The hand to hand combat there was lethal on both sides. Plus they were having ammo issues. Once again here neither side was in a position to bump the other out of their holes.The Germans did hold the west end of the bridge, tenuously, and the Maori's still controlled the east end of the bridge.In closing, the Flieger units did not obtain all their objectives, nor did the Maori troops. Much fighting could have continued, but...it was still the morning and more troops were headed to Crete.The final shot is of a Cretan farm southwest of the bridge where battered Flieger troops decided to shake a leg and lick their wounds throwing back the local spirits.FIN!

Your humble referee was so utterly unprepared for this game that he actually delayed its start writing up the playsheets! Due to the players knowing the rules, a desire to get those gliders on the ground, and the generosity and goodwill of the group, the game went smoothly. Thanks to the MMG for getting into this fight in a big way. After the first scale hour, the FG are about where they were historically, i.e., issue in doubt.I will be ready to ref the next one, when this small but incredibly vital struggle continues. It is still remarkable to me that rules called Mein Panzer can give such a great infantry game!Cheers,Gregory
