I don't know if this is a misprint in the published logs or not -The RN Med 1940-41 DDs sheet includes Janus & Jervis - both are J Class DDs - Janus has 2 quintuple TT mounts while Jervis is listed with 1 quintuple and 1 quadruple.I have researched this class quite extensively and can find no reference to such a difference between these 2 ships - all members of the class carried quintuple mounts exclusively. Can anyone shed any light on this ?Joe

Actually, the log is correct. For a brief time, Jervis carried a single quad and a single quint torpedo tube during the period in question. Additionally, although not represented, many members of the J class, in order to beef up their AA battery, had one torpedo mount removed in lieu of a single 4" AA mount. Later in the war the torpedo mount was returned and the 4" removed. Many of the early war RN DDs went through many changes in armament, some, unfortunately, not as thoroughly documented as we would like.(Source: Conways and Whitley)
