Does anyone know if the Japanese used a commodore rank or its like? I know they tended to follow British practice in many areas and a broad pendent promotion of a senior captain was certainly a time honored British practice; but I've never hears of a Japanese commodore.

According to my sources the IJN did not have the rank of commodore.
