Played a quick 6mm infantry game with my wife over breakfast today, here is a quick AAR.The scenario was sort of made up on the spot and involved a Soviet partisan ambush on a German convoy.Sarah played the ambushing partisans and had the following forces at her disposal:All forces were Green1 x HQ4 x Rifle squad2 x Rifle/LMG squad4 x SMG squad2 x LMG1 x ATR1 x MMGThe German convoy I had consisted of the following:All forces were regulars and began the game mounted in transports.1 x PL1 x LMG5 x Rifle5 x Rifle/LMG1 x Kubelwagon2 x 251/13 x TrucksThe battlefieldThe game was set up on a small 3 x 2 foot board. There was a single road running the length of the board on which the convoy would enter – either side of the road were hills and wooded areas. The partisans set up first and we agreed the following special rules for this scenario – All partisans must set up in the wooded areas. The game would start with a single shot from the ATR taking out the lead vehicle of the convoy, and then each partisan unit would take an activation. After this the game would proceed as usual. We also used the optional squad activation system for this scenario. The set upSarah set up her forces as follows; the SMG squads and the ATR were set out on either side of the road at the head of the ambush. The machine guns were placed at the rear of the ambush – presumably to discourage retreat. The remainder of the forces were placed on a low, wooded hill set some way back from the road. The battleThe convoy rolled on and the leading 251/1 was duly taken out by the ATR, only one rifle unit made it out and that was suppressed. Partisan MG fire raked the trucks at the rear of the convoy, forcing the occupants of these trucks to jump out and become suppressed in the open, sensibly these unit jumped out so the wrecked trucks gave them some cover from the MG’s. The main Partisan rifle force opened fire on the Germans leaving the trucks and caused a few casualties. The Partisan SMG squads rushed forward and sprayed the survivors of the leading halftrack. In the German turn the remaining 251/1 swerved off the road to avoid any fire from the ATR, however the ATR still found its target and the halftrack was destroyed, the two squads inside escaped by were suppressed. All along the line the Germans tried to recover, mainly unsuccessfully, from suppression. The occupants of the last remaining truck bugged out and began to climb an adjacent hill towards some cover. The Partisan MG’s sprayed any Germans in the open with fire keeping them pinned or suppressed. The main group of partisans on the low hill began to cautiously advance towards the Germans. The Partisan SMG squads also advanced towards the suppressed defenders. The Germans at the back of the convoy never stood a chance between the MG fire and the advancing partisan riflemen, and were quickly subdued. The front of the convoy the battle was a little more even, the Germans managed to recover from bad morale and suppression long enough to close assault the ATR team, however the victory was short lived as the Partisan SMG squads assaulted back and drove the Germans out into the open. The final turn or two saw a desperate defence mounted by the Germans but they could not recover from low morale, suppressions and pins to effectively challenge the partisans.A fun, quick battle took us around 45 minutes to fight, from setup to completion.Post edited by: Trotsky, at: 2006/01/02 07:33
