This is an AAR of a scenario work in progress. The action represents the efforts of a German Kampfgruppe containing elements of 383rd Infantry Division, 59th Panzer-Grenadiers, and 20th Panzer Division trying to force their way out of a Soviet encirclement. Cut off by an impassable river and the enclosing Soviets, the German force attempted to rejoin their own lines by forcing their way across the bridge at the town of Titkova. This action was part of the Soviet Bagration Offensive and represents the action fought on 27th July 1944. The Soviets had a mixed force of T34/76’s and T34/85’s, some SU76m’s and a company of infantry with MMG support. A Sturmovik was also included. The Germans had a company of PzIV H’s, a couple of platoons of Stug IIIG’s, a company of Panzer-Grenadiers in 251/1 and trucks. There were some support 251’s and a couple of AA vehicles. The Soviets setup on board and the Germans entered on turn1 along the left edge. The victory conditions relied on German Vehicles exited off the battleboard over the road bridge. The Soviet SU76m's guard the bridge. The Soviet commander was concerned that the Germans would take a direct route along the rivers edge to the bridge. The gunnery skills of the SU's were not great but if the German's did dash for the bridge it would give the SU's close range side shots. Posted Image

The main German tank force enters away from the river - the leading PZIV falls prey to an early (lucky?) shot from a T34/85. Posted Image

The Germans keep up the pace of the advance - trying not to give the Soviets too long to redeploy. The German Infantry use the cover of the few low hills available. Posted Image

With the Soviet defences trying to recover from poor morale the German infantry surge forward towards the town. Posted Image

The Sturmovik releases a pair of rockets at the German armour - the plane had been damaged and his accuracy had suffered equally, but as long as the Germans bunch up like this he felt he had a chance! Here the rockets missed the tanks but deviated into a truck carrying a HMG section (this was the truck mentioned earlier.) Posted Image
