Hi,

I have a damage related question, so I decided it would be more suitable here than in the movement forum.

The collision / fouling table contains hull, rigging and sail damage. I do get how hull and rigging work, but I am unable to find any clarification as to how do I handle damage described as "1/2 sail" for example? Do I roll for spar table for each point to determine which sail is damaged?

The rules simply state that "Collision and fouling damage is resolved immediately using the COLLISION DAMAGE table on Chart 2 B.". And this table is the only place where sail damage is mentioned...

G' Day Aeki,

Good catch. Section 10.5 describes how to use the COLLISION DAMAGE table on Chart 2B, but does not indicate how to determine which sail is damaged/lost.  This should be done using the same process as for spar damage described in Section 6.7 by casting a D12 for each Sail damage and consulting the SPAR table result on Chart 2A for the sail location.  If the indicated sail has already been lost, shift UP one row until a remaining sail is located.  A ½ Sail result is recorded by marking a diagonal line through it on the affected vessel's Ship Card, but does not reduce movement until another Sail damage affects the same sail. Sail damage affects both furled and deployed sails, but accompanying rigging damage results only when listed on the COLLISION DAMAGE table.

Refer to Section 20.3 for replacing the damaged/destroyed sail as indicated on the EXTENDED TASK table on Chart 1A.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. I will add this clarification to the upcoming Post Captain supplement, titled a Foc'sle Companion.
