I still have my copy, and made quite a bit of use of its chapter of Fletcher Pratt's Naval Wargame.

I think I might have two copies...if the office wasn't such a hell-hole right now, I might actually be able to find it. If so, I'll let you know and I can stick it in the mail to you.

You are a scholar, and a gentleman but hang on to it. My chances of going back to 1:1250 are nil and I'm devoted now to FAI in 1:6000. I'm just waiting for someone to put together a WWI North Sea campaign in the CD game mechanic to make my time on earth complete. I've no doubt that if that happens you all will see a great many AARs between the Grand and High Seas Fleets. I realize that the High-C fruit drink commercial in the 70s came too late. But nevertheless, I always have visions of Scheer offering Jellicoe an Hawaiin Punch.

Yes, and 1/1200 - 1/1250 kits are still being launched in the shipyard!  Hoping to see Furious and Graf Zeppelin getting it on in the forseeable future!  Fi 167s rule!

Hope all here have a terrific New Year's and a productive 2025. I, for one, pledge to be more productive in the upcoming year with a freshening of the fleet cabinet and a number of game sessions on the calendar. Looking forward to seeing/hearing more from this mob.

There's been precious little action around the table of late, so very little to share. Hoping to host a few clashes in the next month or so heading into Historicon. New pup here's been sucking up every shred of spare time. Behavior training starts this week...should be fun.

I got myself sucked into watching the live feed of the Iron Bottom Sound survey being executed as part of the Nautilus Exploration Program (feed can be found here https://nautiluslive.../live/channel-3 ). USS Astoria, Quincy, and Vincennes are complete; next up is Northampton. Attempts to locate a couple of Japanese destroyers were unsuccessful. Additional surveys of unknown bogeys is anticipated. Pretty interesting stuff, although a bit like watching paint dry.

My only New Orleans class cruisers so far, USS San Francisco (an old casting by Viking Forge), and USS Minneapolis (GHQ), neither of which were lost off Guadalcanal:

USS San Francisco

USS Minneapolis

Chatter can be interesting.

The Ironbottom Sound exploration came to a premature end due to a technical issue (I thought it was a problem with the lead ROV, but later heard that the crane used to handle these vehicles had developed a problem). Regardless, lots of good stuff documented during the two week mission. The discovery/exploration of IJN DD Teruzuki was a high point for me, having read a number of accounts of her sinking. Turns out, we now know they were all wrong.

The table here remains quiet. I've filled my time working on some MP stuff (heresy, I know). A friend of mine called the other day to ask what I knew of USN operations in the North Sea during the closing months of the war. "Very little", I said. "We should take a look at it."

The North Sea Mine Barrage was definitely a significant operation!

A huge operation, for sure. I seem to recall the USN getting involved with escorting Norwegian convoys in the final months of the war as well. Might be worth looking at.

I know that Kamikaze means divine (or heavenly) breeze (or wind depending on the translation). But does anyone know what "suki" means? Because between the Akatsuki and Akitsuki classes that is a lot of suki. I'm going to LOL if it turns out to be just noodles.

Most of the online translators for Japanese are terrible, but my best guess is that "Tsuki" is Japanese for "Moon". Hence, Akizuki-class DD Wakatsuki translates as "Young Moon".

Now, if you want to have a lengthy discussion about Ramen, I'm all in.
